A NEW APPROACH FOR MOTOR APPLICATIONS: SIMOCODE pro (3UF7) breaks the mold of the traditional approach for motor control, protection and monitoring by combining all of these functionalities into a single product.

Control:

Typically the logic for motor control is programmed either remotely using programming logic (Ladder logic) of a PLC/DCS system or locally using hard wired devices. With the use of built-in application profiles (ex: reversing, open/close, extend/retract), SIMOCODE pro reduces the PLC/DCS programming requirement simply to the command itself (fwd/rev, open/close, extend/retract), eliminating the need for complicated algorithms consuming significant PLC resources. The execution and fault monitoring of the command is provided by SIMOCODE pro. This also greatly simplifies local wiring without sacrificing functionality. Additional logic capability (timers, counters, truth tables, etc…) allows the customization of these profiles. SIMOCODE pro’s digital I/O allows for simple local wiring. Input devices such as pushbuttons and switches can be simply connected and the operation logic configured in SIMOCODE pro. SIMOCODE pro can also directly accommodate 4-20mA analog and RTD temperature signals through I/O expansion modules. This allows for direct measurement of critical process conditions.

Protection:

SIMOCODE pro is a solid state device that provides current protection features (selectable trip classes, overload, over/under current, stall, jam etc…) for up to an 820A motor. SIMOCODE pro incorporates a separate current transformer to measure motor current and can be used with single phase and three phase motors.

With the use of a voltage/current measuring module, SIMOCODE pro can also reliably detect POWER, under load (loss of load) condition, measure voltage and power factor levels. The reaction to all of these measurements/ fault conditions is also selectable and could be a trip, warning, signal or disabled.

Monitoring:

In today’s market, increasing machine availability and reducing maintenance costs are important topics. The key is to

  1. Detect problems before they cause a machine to fail
  2. Quick diagnosis of a failure when it does occur
  3. Knowing more precisely what maintenance repairs need to be performed at the right time.

Monitoring of motor applications at the motor level provides information to achieve these goals. SIMOCODE pro provides sufficient diagnostic data to quickly restart a machine/process from an identified failure (reduced downtime) but it can provide data to catch a potential problem before it shuts down the system (breakdown avoidance). It also provides key operational data to plan conditional maintenance instead of preventive maintenance based on a calendar time line. By monitoring key parameters, maintenance knows specifically what to repair on the machine and when. This reduces the required maintenance downtime significantly.
